I spent four days in Kagawa photographing Nouso Sushioke Seizojo, one of only two remaining workshops that continue the traditional craft of Sanuki oke-taru. Each piece is handcrafted with great care by Yuta Tanaka, the second-generation owner and a certified traditional craftsman. The piece featured in this post is their signature work, the “Sushioke – Japanese Red & White Cedar, Size 11.”Made from carefully selected domestic red and white cedar, its beautiful contrasting grain and excellent water resistance are characteristics unique to this workshop―something you won’t find elsewhere. In an age where convenience dominates, objects born from analog craftsmanship like this stand out with a presence that feels almost like art.―※ The website is currently under construction.
