kanichi omiya

ATAMI. The “Kanichi and Omiya Statue” is a literary monument inspired by a famous scene from Ozaki Kōyō’s novel Konjiki Yasha (The Golden Demon), located on the coast of Atami. It depicts the moment when Kanichi, betrayed by his beloved Omiya, throws money at her in anger and sorrow. As a symbol of Meiji-era romanticism, the statue reflects the passions and social values of its time. Today, it remains one of Atami’s iconic landmarks, attracting many visitors and literature lovers who come to pray for love and lasting relationships.
